Riding the Current

The Journaling Muse – Issue #42 Riding the Current: Flowing with Resistance and Restlessness

A soft space to reflect, reconnect, and create with feeling.
My intention is to help you slow down and soothe your nervous system — through colour, texture, and expressive journaling that speaks gently to your inner world.

Dear Reader,

As the year speeds toward its close, I feel the familiar pull,
the world begins to spin faster,
and part of me still tries to find stillness inside it.

But the truth is, I feel restless.
Impatient.
Uneasy in the pause.

When I lived in Malaysia, the end of the year felt different,
there was no rush.
Back in Europe, the energy feels electric, even frantic.

But what if the current isn’t the enemy?
What if restlessness is just a wave of energy
trying to move through me, not hold me back?

Maybe the way forward isn’t to stop or control it,
but to learn how to ride the current,
to let motion itself become the path toward peace.

Journaling Prompts – Moving with the Energy

1. What part of me is eager to move forward, even when I feel stuck?
2. When have I turned impatience or restlessness into creative momentum?
3. How does resistance feel like a current I can swim in, rather than fight against?
4. What small action can I take today to channel restless energy into flow?
5. How do I know the difference between helpful momentum and reactive rushing?
6. What could be the hidden gift in my unease right now?
7. If I could move with this feeling instead of against it, what might shift?

Don’t try to calm the water — just notice how it moves you.

Creative Play – Harnessing the Energy

Flow Drawing or Painting
Set a timer for five minutes. Move fast and loose, let your hand follow your inner rhythm, no judgment, no control.

Movement Journaling
Speak your thoughts aloud or record a voice note. Let the words flow before shaping them later into a short poem or reflection.

Wave Collage
Tear paper or use digital layers to build a sense of motion, swirling, colliding, blending a visual map of energy in transition.

Twenty-Second Doodles
Draw quickly, one after another, for pure release. The goal isn’t beauty, it’s momentum.

Let every mark, word, or gesture become a small act of release.

Recent Painting

After patiently layering one of my recent pieces,
I felt a sudden pull, a need to move faster, freer.
So I let the brush dance, painting how the air and nature felt around me.

Cheering on You,

Beáta
