What’s Ending, What’s Beginning?

The Journaling Muse – Issue #30 What's Ending? What's Beginning?

A soft space to reflect, reconnect, and create with feeling.
My intention is to help you slow down and soothe your nervous system — through colour, texture, and expressive journaling that speaks gently to your inner world.

Hi, Dear Reader,

August always feels like a turning point. We’re still wrapped in summer’s warmth, but there’s a shift in the light, a softening in the evenings, and—if we listen closely—a whisper that change is coming.

This year, the so-called Lion’s Gate Portal on the 8th adds another layer to the season. Many see it as a time for transformation, clarity, and calling in your future self. I found myself thinking deeply about the cycles in my own life, those thoughts and habits that don’t serve me, and how my dream-self would act instead.

For me, this has meant realizing how often I push my body through discomfort for the sake of achievement or to meet outside expectations. I recognized that my ‘future self,’ living a dream life, would treat herself with more compassion—putting herself first, honoring her body’s signals, and letting go of outdated patterns that cause unnecessary struggle.

This is the clarity, I’m inviting in: choosing small, daily acts that support self-kindness and well-being.

Journaling Prompts

What am I ready to let go of?
Think about habits, attitudes, or ways of working that create struggle or keep you from feeling the way you want to feel. What’s one story, behavior, or belief you notice that’s ready to be released?

What wants to bloom next?
If you step into your dream self, how would you treat yourself? What practices, boundaries, or acts of care are asking to be welcomed in? Imagine what new chapter could begin if you let this version of yourself guide the transition.

If I stepped into my future self today, what would change in how I care for myself?

Creative Invitation
Create an image that holds both an ending and a beginning. It could be a single canvas with two colours blending, a collage of past and future, or even a photo of something in transition—like a flower dropping petals while seeds form.

A Little Muse for You:
What cycle in your life is quietly closing? What tender shoots are you ready to nurture?

If you’d like to explore this energy more deeply, I invite you to take a look at Paint Your Inner Garden—a gentle mini course where we begin with noticing, honouring, and creating from exactly where you are.

Cheering on You,
